This September 2009 I visited a Southern Baptist Church in Vacaville, CA, USA (north of San Francisco for 80 miles or less). My reason was to interview Pastor Bob Lawler on the topic Sunday School, for an article.
After the interview in his office, during lunch, we talk about spiritual matters and religious, too. The purpose, inspiration, and practice of the preacher's sermon was part of the discussion.
Pastor Lawler of the First Baptist Church in Vacaville, whose number of members of the family is the unit about 500, said a sermon at the church could be 45 minutes or more. Was the Holy Spirit at work in the sermon, like much of what is said at that time preaching the result of referral notes, not fully typed written text.
I said in my church (Episcopal in Mill Valley, CA, USA), the sermon will be about 12 minutes. Undoubtedly, the liturgy of the word is emphasized in the tradition of Southern Baptists.
As part of our inter-religious dialogue, mutual According to the Holy Spirit was at work. My friend Linda, who helped lead me to visit Pastor Bob and see his church for the interview, agreed.
This morning, inspired by his comments on the Holy Spirit, wrote this poem. My effort in response to Pentecost, in September and a wonderful visit to the First Baptist Church, where Pastor Leroy Gainey is superior, and wrote by email to come and visit my story on why the Southern Baptists called The Church Sunday School was very successful. Pastor Leroy I'm glad I did speak with Pastor Bob Lawler. A very good interview and hospital visit.

What is he here now …?
Talk sensibly carry
about the sermons:
The Holy Spirit.
Modern day 21st century
Dice
In this state, in this county, in this city;
We do not talk about religion,
Terms or faith, or spiritual
This post was a Christian –
His despair not God, Christ (?)
What is: What next?
Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit,
That Word, the Word,
What is he here now.
Enter the sermon, spontaneously
We say, and mention work
Of the Holy Spirit in this company
In preaching from the pulpit saying,
The lectern, standing before the faithful,
Gospel: breathing language.
Words of Tame, but not always, but the passion
Of history, time, man, Christ,
And God, the Holy Spirit. Always.
What is he here now …?
I believe, as the preacher preaches,
And he writes or says extemporaneous
Talk driven and meant to listen and
De De Pentecost, the tongues of the tongue and the flame,
Their forms are not working! Halleluajah!
Christ is risen, Come Holy Spirit.
